Bruce Livesey
Green Party Candidate
Beaches-East York
I'm Bruce Livesey, the Green Party of Canada’s candidate for the Beaches-East York by-election to be held on August 31, 2026.
I am a former TTC bus driver who drove 16 routes through this riding and delivered thousands of people to their homes, workplaces, recreational and shopping venues. I know the people and issues that the residents of Beaches-East York are facing.
Prior to working for the TTC, I was an award-winning investigative reporter for more than three decades focusing on social justice and environmental issues, working for many of Canada’s top media organizations, including the CBC and Global News, and writing for the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, The Guardian, National Post, National Observer, The Walrus, PBS-Frontline, Buzzfeed and many others.
As a TTC driver, I could see one of the biggest issue facing residents is affordability. To this end, as MP, I would press for:
Free Transit
Co-operatively owned and operated grocery stores to lower food prices
Funding co-op and affordable housing
Significant increase in the minimum wage
Subsidies to local businesses to help them lower energy bills by introducing energy-saving retrofits and measures
Creation of an industrial and jobs program to help convert to renewable energy in order to help combat the climate crisis.
Fighting against the fossil fuel sector and impose measures to curb C02 emissions.
